Notice re Door-to-Door Sales

The Town has had two notifications from residents saying that they have been contacted by door-to-door salespeople saying they represent a water company. They have specifically told residents that they are in the area to conduct testing because of the high levels of sodium, chlorine and/or metals which are unsafe for people to be drinking.

These companies are trying to sell equipment that may not be necessary as the Town’s water supply meets all regulatory requirements under the Safe Drinking Water Act. If the water was unsafe, only Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville or Region of York staff would contact residents about the situation, not a third party.

There is information on our website –…/residents/water-and-utilities.aspx… about our water quality.

If the salespeople are aggressive, or misrepresenting themselves as working on behalf of the Town, you are encouraged to report it to York Regional Police.
